31 Days of Halloween - Day 11

Hello folks, and it’s day 11 of the Smeared and Smudged 31 days of Halloween Blog Hop.  All you have to do to take part is to hop through each of the Wicked Blogs that are participating and leave a comment on each project.  All Horrifying Hoppers will receive a Survival Button at the end of the month to proudly post on their blog.

Today's offering is a dissolving card.  

Here's a Vine of the card in action.  You can download a template from here and there's a YouTube video which may help to explain how it all goes together.  It is a bit of an awkward one so I recommend trying it out on some rough paper before you start chopping up your treasured card stock.

The stamp is by Visible Image and it's from their French Revolution set.  It made me think of a nightmare, which is a bit spooky.  It also reminded  about an old custom in South Wales, the Mari Lwyd.  Halloween wasn't a big deal when I was growing up - Guy Fawkes night was the big celebration.  Halloween was known as Ducking Apples night (we floated apples in a bowl of water and the game was to get an apple without using your hands) and my grandmother used to talk about the Mari Lwyd, which was basically a horse's skull on a pole, decorated with bits of cloth and taking round all the houses.  The story used to frighten the life out of me when I was a little 'un.

Apparently the custom was associated with the new year, so perhaps my grandmother was mistaken about associating it with Halloween - however, Samhain was the old Celtic new year so maybe Nana was right after all.  At any rate, there's an example of a Mari Lwyd at the Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagan's, near Cardiff.
