31 Days of Halloween - Day 14

Hello folks, and it’s day 14 of the Smeared and Smudged 31 days of Halloween Blog Hop.  All you have to do to take part is to hop through each of the Wicked Blogs that are participating and leave a comment on each project.  All Horrifying Hoppers will receive a Survival Button at the end of the month to proudly post on their blog.

Today I made a little box masquerading as a book out of bits of greyboard (chipboard) that I saved from the big boxes of envelopes we use in work  the inside tube of a toilet roll and some string.  The toilet roll (cut in half) and the string were used to make the spine of the book and then the rest of it was put together with construction strips.

The leather-effect covering is kraft paper treated with a mixture of water and glycerine - see Sheena Douglass's tutorial on YouTube for the method.  It's been embossed and painted with acrylic paint.   A bit of drybrushing with gold paint helped highlight the embossing.

 I used a Tim Holtz tag, stamped with a little spider from Tim's Mini Halloween stamp set and added it to a little chatelaine charm which sits on the closure, made out of a Sam Browne belt stud and a strap cut from Grungepaper (because it's flexible and tough) also painted with acrylic.

To make the pages of the "book", I covered three sides of the box with texture paste and then ran an old plastic card through it to make grooves (I found a sort of chopping motion worked best) .  Once dry I painted it.
